Leila Bartholet is a very very stylish NY-based digital designer and art director. I’m lucky to collaborate with her every day <3
I. an inspirational design duo
The design duo Claire Bataille & Paul Ibens are my current design inspirations. I’ve been trying to break out of my digital design lens recently, and these two really hit the nail on the head. They designed everything and anything including homes, a convent, construction joinery, cutlery, and furniture.
"We are not looking for trendy effects, but rather for the power and sensuality of space." Paul Ibens, 2003
II. a nyc institution
I discovered that the nyc ballet does $30 tickets if you’re 30 or under. After seeing 21st Century Choreography I (featuring Partitia, Play Time, and Love Letter On Shuffle) in May, I became absolutely obsessed.. The same week, I got tickets to Justin Peck's Copland Dance Episodes, and I am seeing All Balachine II at the end of the month.
III. a treat
Please someone stop me from buying these $8 yogurts because I simply cannot.. They also have savory flavors that you can put on potato chips..
IV. an italic, non-italic serif font you didn’t know you needed
As of late I’ve been uninspired by non-italic serif fonts.. so Astrae studio’s Untalic was exactly what I needed. An absolute gem of a serif that has the characteristics of an italic font without the slant. (I discovered Astrae through their Chataeu font on Flamingo estate’s honey jars, which is another A+ font IMO).
V. a deranged book that you will want to put down but you won’t
If you know me you know I love horror.. Ottessa Moshfegh’s new novel Lapvona absolutely shook me. It’s camp horror set in a fictional medieval village. Think death, ugliness, and a whole lot of breast feeding…
