No. 05: Yours Truly
Mack Books' table, B.V. Doshi, Sofie Pavitt's mandelic serum, Sophie Buhai lighters and Souen
Good morning from new york!
I. a table i saw recently
A couple of weekends ago I went to Mack Books’ new LA store. While I went for the books, I left thinking about the furniture. The beautiful tables and book cases were all made by Alex de Rijke, an architect and close friend of Michael (the owner). They were crafted to be suitable for a mobile Reading Room. I really loved the Countour Table created from a single sheet of american douglas fir —
II. a quote
In the most recent issue of Apartamento, Khushnu Hoof reflected on the life of her grandfather, Pritzker Prize-winning architect B.V. Doshi, who passed away earlier this year. Doshi first collaborated with Le Corbusier and Louis Kahn and went on to bring modernism to India. I really enjoyed reading about him and particularly this quote from her piece:
’Fiction. It twists and turns, constantly evolves, and expresses fluidity of time.’ It’s free. It has no beginning and no end. ‘Life’, he would say, ‘happens between reality and illusion.’
In the past two years, this exact sentiment has rung so true in my life. It’s where I’ve found real joy, peace and fulfillment. If you don’t have the latest issue of Apartamento nearby (which I recommend grabbing) you can read more about Doshi here.

III. a skincare favorite
Sofie Pavitt’s mandelic clearing serum has truly changed my skin.. it’s smoother, more even toned and brighter. I also love her cleanser and this tool on her very well designed website that lets you paste the ingredients of any product to check if it’s **truly** noncomedogenic.
IV. a chic lighter
Sophie Buhai shared a few sneak peaks of her SS24 line she’s showing in Paris this week… everything is of course very chic. These new lighters with jade, mother of pearl, and onyx are so beautiful.. this evening flask is too..
V. a restaurant i adore
Souen will forever hold a special place in my heart. It’s where I love catching up with a friend or grabbing a quiet late lunch in the front corner table with a book. The whole menu is the most nourishing food you can find this city.. especially the miso tahini ramen.
