No. 11: Yours Truly
Ogata, Silver Springs, hair accessories, Majestic Sprouted Hummus, and the jeep wave
Good morning. I hope you’re still in bed with a hot coffee or tea :)
I. a tearoom in paris
Just off Rue de Turenne is a short 1ish block street lined mostly with apartments… except Ogata – a very special tearoom, restaurant, boutique, pastry shop, and art gallery created by Tokyo-based chef/architect/designer Shinichiro Ogata. Each fixture, plant, fountain, bowl is just so good. The tearoom is a sleek, dimly lit room with barstools and a very faint click/clack of a dish here and there.. no music. I think about this room often where Juliet and I enjoyed a few teas & the best kagikori (freshly shaved ice with matcha) — time truly pauses here.
II. a yoga studio in la
Silver Springs is one of the most beautiful & special yoga / pilates studios I’ve been to. No two classes of my friend Emmie’s are alike — I always learn something new and leave with an extra tool in my toolbox. A movement I didn’t know I needed or a different perspective that lingers in the back of my mind throughout the week. Kyle’s classes make me laugh out loud, yet I also walk out of the (hotttttt) room feeling like a new person… and I feel like the whole class gets into a rhythm that really does feel like an orchestra as she calls it. Silver Springs is of course special because of the yoga, but it’s also designed like a chic friends living room — elevated & comfy. It has the feeling of the neighborhood spot, yet friends are popping in from all over town and that’s the best surprise at 7a :)
III. an accessory
Once in a blue moon I’ll let my hair down (literally, not figuratively), but most of the time it’s up with some sort of hair accessory. Scrunchies are usually my first choice.. I love these from Arq and when I’m feeling extra gurlie I wear this beautiful lace one. I recently purchased this Caro Editions clip and I love a barette moment too.. this one from Tangerine holds my hair perfectly. Beauty supply stores also have great ones. Larchmont Beauty Supply (la) & C.O. Bigelow (nyc) are my go-to’s.
IV. a hummus
Majestic Sprouted Plain Hummus is… honestly majestic. It’s truly unlike any other hummus. It’s organic, sprouted, family-owned, and southern california-based — the perfect recipe for an insanely good hummus. And I have to say, I love their logo. Feels very Whole Foods early 2000s vibes.
V. a friendly gesture
There are many small moments of familiarity throughout my day – the front desk usuals at my office, the barista who gives me an extra cup of coffee on the house, the neighbor who says hello each morning because he leaves for work at the same time as I do.. but there’s one moment that always reeeally makes me smile.. a Jeep wave. Who knew something could be so sweet as a gentle float of 2 fingers off the wheel with a slight nod of the head.
